Frequently Asked Question
Many individuals are familiar with Botox due to it being the number one non-surgical treatment option to date. However, there are still many misconceptions and questions regarding this popular treatment. Here are a common list of frequently asked questions regarding neurotoxins.
Most commonly known as Botox, neurotoxins are an injectable form of botulism toxin. Botox is a brand of neurotoxin and there is also Xeomin and Dysport, all of which work the same to have anti-wrinkle effects.
Neurotoxins block signals from the nerves to the muscles so that they stop contracting. Once injected into the muscle, the decreased contractions cause wrinkles and lines to relax and soften. Not only do the wrinkles and lines improve with the neurotoxin, but they can also prevent the lines from getting deeper.
The effects usually last 3-6 months, however different there are variables that can affect this. The amount of product used, the client's metabolism, and the client's age can all affect this. However, the injections shrink muscles over time so continued treatments will help decrease the severity of the appearance of wrinkles and lines.
Unfortunately, there is no universal answer to this question and the amount varies from person to person depending on several factors. These factors include how large a muscle is, how strong the muscle is, facial anatomy, area of treatment, gender, and goals of treatment.
Some people can build up a resistance to neurotoxins over time requiring more units, however this happens with certain brand over others.
Typically you can go about your normal day after getting injected. However, there are some things you need to avoid to get the best results and not have any undesired effects.
